When you are shopping for insurance, some questions come up that you may not think about often. After all, you’re forced to confront some pretty scary “what ifs.”
Our business is one that doesn’t hide from the what-ifs, and even though most of the time these “what-ifs” will never turn into “has beens,” it’s important to stay protected for the few times they do.
One recent example of this was 5 years ago in April of 2011. A tornado rampaged through South Appleton and the Heart of the Valley leaving tens of thousands of dollars in damage in its wake. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
Sharing the Burden
As members of this community, we were affected by this storm. In the unique position of being relied upon for others’ insurance needs, we made sure we were available the next morning for our clients.
Jackie arrived at 3 in the morning to begin working on bringing up our servers and other operating systems. We all came in early, worked late and made sure all of our clients knew they could count on us as they unraveled the damage from the storm.
It’s what we do at abel insurance, and the way we want our clients to think about us. We are there when and where you need us. No matter what.
You Never Know
The mid-spring storm served as a reminder that in Northeast Wisconsin, you never know what to expect from the weather. We’d love to live in a world where such storms don’t exist, but they do.
2011 proved that storms like this aren’t necessarily “what-ifs,” but rather “whens.” It’s important to make sure your insurance policy will cover you in an event like this one. It’s also important to make sure you mind safety guidelines like keeping your vehicles in a garage and seeking basement cover if the sirens are blown or alert is given.
As for insurance tips, these can change based on your unique situation, type of insurance, insurance company and specific weather event. The best practice is to immediately contact your insurance agency following a weather event like the storm of April 2011.
